NOW AVAILABLE | It’s hard to believe that Ducati’s original Monster is now over 30 years old - that classic silhouette still looks so good. And this late 2005 620, one of the very last ‘baby Monsters’, has to be right up there with the best I’ve ever seen.

With just 1,900 miles on the clock, this beautiful single owner machine has lived nearly all of its life in Spain, where a combination of gentle use and good weather has preserved it in near flawless, standard condition.

Such a happy-go-lucky little bike, with stacks of air cooled charm, and more than a whiff of ‘proper’ Ducati about it. Goes, looks and sounds like a middleweight twin should, and in this sort of shape, one to treasure - either in its own right, or perhaps alongside a bigger sister (a 916 Senna would make for a perfect stablemate!). FRIDAY REFLECTION | Just a reminder that Suzuki dropped the radical Nuda in 1986.

Nineteen. Eighty. Six.

The year I was born. One of us seems to be aging rather more gracefully than the other. I shall leave it up to you to pass judgement as to which.

Got me thinking though. I can’t recall seeing a single concept bike in the last 5 years that I found at all engaging from a design perspective. Nothing.

Where are the moon shot bikes? The future pin ups?

Yes stuff like Honda’s forthcoming V3 is interesting. But I don’t want a picture of it on my wall. Not even close.

Are we living in a post-aesthetic world. Where function has become so complicated we can’t be arsed with form any more? It’s been over 30 years since Ducati blessed us with the 916. Thirty. Years.

We’re overdue an icon…

Thoughts? Am I just getting old?

I’ve got a real soft spot developing for the 4C8 R1; in many ways quite an experimental bike for Yamaha. And whilst I can understand why some riders didn’t gel with it straight away, it really is a bike that keeps you coming back for more. The performance is there, you just have to work a bit harder to find it. And that, my friends, is a very satisfying path to follow.

NEW ARRIVAL | This 2008 Yamaha R1 (4C8) has a few more miles than our normal stock (26k), but would you just look at it!

Save for a set of braided hoses, the bike is gloriously original. Which is incredibly rare for a 4C8 - normally the recipient of a ‘few’ aftermarket parts.

Launched in the middle of a financial crisis and produced for just two years, the 4C8 falls awkwardly between the early fuel injected bikes, and the much celebrated Big Bang. It is in many respects a bit of a forgotten warrior. But make no mistake, it is one of the most entertaining litre bikes ever produced - and cracking value too.

Classic here in the most sought after white and red, it is a beautifully kept example, with fresh S23s. Don’t miss it.

SOLD | This. Now this was a special one. The eagle eyed amongst you may have seen this bike pop up in a couple of our previous stories, but this has been a journey.

Let’s start with the basics. A sub-3k mile, UK, 916 SP3. 2 owners since 1996. Period correct, down to the original tyres (not fitted thankfully), matching paddock stand, and even the UK-specific 916-themed BT phone card. It was, in my opinion, almost without parallel.

Owing to lack of use in recent years, some recommissioning was required. Coordinated in-house, and with some help from some totally brilliant mates, we completed a host of tasks - some small stuff, and some bigger stuff (i.e. the entire fuel system). The result? Well, I hope you’ll agree we did a good job.

The final piece of the puzzle was to find her a new, long-term home. I never reveal the identities of my clients, because most are quite private, humble folks. But I know we’ve put this one into the right hands, fulfilling a dream that started in 1998 with a 916 Bip, and finally came true today.

I maintain these are more than mere machines.

And this is more than a job.
